🔥 Fire & Carbon Monoxide Safety
- Smoke detectors installed on every floor
- Smoke detectors tested (press test button)
- Carbon monoxide detector installed near bedrooms
- Fire extinguisher in kitchen — accessible, not expired
- Escape plan practiced — two ways out of each room
- Stove/oven turned off after each use
- Space heater at least 3 feet from anything flammable
- Matches and lighters stored safely
🚶 Fall Prevention
- Non-slip mats in shower and bathtub
- Grab bars installed near toilet and shower
- Handrails on both sides of stairs
- Pathways clear of clutter, cords, and loose rugs
- Adequate lighting in hallways and stairs
- Nightlights in bedroom, bathroom, hallway
- No loose throw rugs without non-slip backing
- Step stool with handrail for high shelves
🔒 Home Security
- Deadbolt locks on all exterior doors
- Window locks or security bars on ground floor
- Peephole or doorbell camera installed
- Outdoor lighting — front door, back door, driveway
- Spare key NOT hidden under doormat or flower pot
- Neighbor or friend has a copy of your house key
- Emergency contact list visible near phone
📞 Emergency Preparedness
- First aid kit fully stocked and accessible
- Flashlight with fresh batteries in easy reach
- Emergency phone numbers posted near each phone
- Medical alert system or wearable alert device (if needed)
- List of medications and allergies in wallet
- At least 3 days of medications on hand
- Friend or neighbor checks on you daily
- Emergency kit ready (water, snacks, radio, batteries)
⚡ Electrical & Appliance Safety
- No overloaded power outlets or extension cords
- Frayed or damaged cords replaced
- Appliances unplugged when not in use
- Space heater never left unattended
- Water heater set to 120°F (49°C) max
- Dryer lint filter cleaned after each use
